About the Art & Artist – Ali Suelaka Johnson
"My pieces are my conversations. They’re ingrained in the time and intention I give to each one—moments of confusion, discovery, joy, sorrow, and everything in between."
My conversations with God cover everything and nothing. I ask questions from the deepest parts of my soul—things I rarely say out loud. Some of these questions find partial answers by the time I finish a piece, though often they lead to even more questions. In truth, there is never really a “finished” piece. The orderly part of me hopes those conversations continue with whoever becomes the new caretaker of the work.
I want my work to inspire someone to pause—whether at home or anywhere—and truly see it. I infuse each creation with hope before releasing it into this vast world, wishing that the joy I feel while making it might reach someone else. Whether I’m sitting or standing at my table, giddy as a child, each piece is another chance to bring happiness.
Sometimes, that small spark of joy is all God needs to step in.
